AFI's 100 Years - 100 Movies is a documentary produced by the American Film Institute. The abridged form was produced as a CBS television special which aired in June of 1998. It's a collection of the movie scenes and lines which are most often cited as the classics and favorites, and remarks by actors and directors.

For example, they show and discuss the "You talkin' to me?" scene from Taxi Driver, and Marlon Brando's desperate "Hey, Stella!" scene from A Streetcar Named Desire, etc.

I got a kick out of the scene in American Graffiti where Richard Dreyfus is yelling "What did you say?" to the anonymous woman listed in the credits only as "blonde in T-Bird." That woman was played by an unknown (in 1973) extra named Suzanne Somers.

The documentary includes interviews (in the abridged version, very short interviews) with the actors and directors involved in the productions, and some who weren't there but who have studied and admire the works. They describe the context, or make anecdotal remarks about the production of each scene being shown. In the abridged edition, about one to two minutes are allocated to each of 100 movies. The complete edition (which isn't all that expensive) is most recommended.
